Click to expand.I always like the factory presets as a starting point. I always had not so good results when doing it from complete scratch as well. That being said, depending on what sounds you are looking for, I like to start off with this type of chain in mfx box: ( you can move things around, but I like to start off this way )i typically like the time based effects after the amps and the compressors, OD, wah, etc, before the amp.Guitar wah compressor overdrive /distortion Amp Cab Chorus Delay Reverb.I move Flangers and Phasers and EQs around the chain depending on what I hear when I want something like that. Of course changing cabs out can be tone changer as well. But some advise that Scott Peterson gave regarding doing your own preset was pretty good.
It was on the axe fx, but you can use that formula. Basically start with amp cab and some reverb and build from there. I´ll try both approaches. I am going to try out S-Gear soon, maybe in a month when I actually have some free time. I was thinking that I don´t need a ton of effects, and S-Gear seems to be quite a nice sim, and especially with the IRs.
The RP could give me a wah, volume, and some optional effects such as a drive or a compressor. Maybe some other occassional effects besides the ones in S-Gear.However, I did buy the RP as a standalone unit for those rare occassions when I get to play with other people. Therefore, I will try to build some basic patches that can work with the music I like.Still, I wish people would share patches as with other units. Thanks Jerry, I haven´t tried it that way, exactly. But, I guess it could be interesting to try and reproduce someone else´s analog rig in digital. My RP360 works as an audio interface as well. I just recorded a small jam using the looper that way myself.

Regarding patches, I never tweak on the computer. I just use the unit itself for that.A couple of things I found to work for me: the Digitech Alternative 4x12 cab and the next one in the list as well (don't remember the name it). Also using the EQ after the amp, setting the treble band to the highest frequency possible, setting the Q to wide and turn the gain for that band all the way down to - 12. Works wonders for headphones for me.Also, a forumite called burningyen posted some screenshots of patches for his RP355.
Use them as inspiration as well. They don't translate 100% to the 360, but you can get very close. Finally, the JCM 800 model is fantastic. It is VERY responsive to the guitar's volume knob.

It defaults to all three tone controls at 10. And that just works. I'll chime in here.I grabbed an RP360XP and used it yesterday for two church services.
We hold about 1000 people and the room is fairly big. Pretty good PA installation. No floor monitors, just in-ears.I've spent my time thus far working on an amp tone that uses the 'Fraternal' model (Fender Twin).Overall, the amp model comes through great through the system but building it in my studio seemed to translate as a bit dark sounding. Again, through the PA it was perfect.I've owned the RP500 and 1000 and it really does seem this is the same, just more functionality. Now, this is where I've had problems (and maybe you guys have as well). The overall output of the unit is fine but the individual drives just aren't strong enough to give both the drive tone and the volume bump that is associated with using a standard pedal/amp setup. In fact, the majority of the drives need to be cranked in order to achieve anything close to unity gain. This makes for a challenging time when building patches.Any of you guys experience this?Note, I used external dirt pedals yesterday and they did great with the 360. I'd just like to use the ones on the actual unit.

Thanks Will.I do a lot with the expression pedal for swells and such so I'd need to get another one I assume if I were to go that route.I think part of my issue is that I like a clean amp and then I like getting the majority of my gain from pedals. Not to say that clean amp has to be sterile. In fact, a little tube breakup is good.
I'm not sure if the RP can get me there without the external pedals.Side note, the unit does take pedals extremely well. From experience, most RP units do.Other side note. Are you using the EQ on most of your patches?
