Just adding my two cents. This is based on what I have seen when I was a dealer tech and what we had to deal with when it came to the 'extended warranty' companies and their idea of book times.- The Audi book time is basically 'light' due to the fact Audi uses it for warranty times. When it comes to customer pay jobs, most dealerships in the states will take that warranty time (5 hours) and multiply it by a factor of 1.5, some used 1.6.- Audi warranty would pay the dealer the published 500 Time Units (TU) (5-hours) for a job. Where as the customer pay price was the 5-hours.1.5 = 7.5-hours.My last dealership would tell the insurance company the price is the customer pay price of 7.5hrs. Then some how the service writer would get talked down below Audi's warranty time, uhg. And now ask the dealer tech to do the job for less. Instead of telling the customer 'your insurance does not pay for the whole job and you will need to pay the difference', like the rest of the insurance industry dose. That always pissed me off, not my car, why do I need to loose the time?So do not let them push you around, it is their job to get the price down as low as they can and if they thought you would do it for free, bet you they would pay you $0.00.The sites may have Labor Times, I never had a look.Hope that helps, drpeter.

(if someone knows hows to get repair times that would be handy)I agree with you and we don't deal with warranty companies as a rule but as the car is owned by the mechanic who works for us i'm trying to help him out.
Q: How do repair information providers come up with their labor times?A: Most manufacturers provide repair time estimates strictly for warranty purposes. The manufacturer will conduct several timed tests for a particular repair, and use the average as the labor time. A brand new vehicle is used for the time study, the technician is trained and experienced, all required tools are at the-ready, and the car is on the hoist, if needed. In a nutshell, manufacturer-provided labor times are based on ideal conditions that are not reflective of the typical repair scenario in an auto repair shop. To fix this, aftermarket repair information providers may adjust the manufacturers’ times to better reflect reality. At Autodata Publications, for example, manufacturers’ labor times may be increased depending upon the job’s level of complexity. The more complex the job, the more time is added.
All labor times are increased a small amount simply to account for the up-front administrative work such as writing up the repair order, bringing the car into the bay and getting it up on the hoist. Simple repairs that normally require few special tools or experience receive no additional labor time adjustment.Information provided by Autodata Publications, Inc.
